Disruptive Technologies - A look at the MakerBot Replicator
This month's Lunch & Learn will focus on the MakerBot Replicator - an affordable 3D printer that can turn technical drawings in to real life objects in a matter of minutes - or, if it's really big, then hours. People are making anything they can imagine - key chains, bottle openers, whistles, musical instruments, desk organizers, art work, even replacement parts for planes and people.
The MakerBot Replicator is driven by instructions from the ReplicatorG software, which understands designs from www.Thingiverse.com as well as a variety of 3D design software. This specific 3D printer can handle two different plastics at once, allowing for different colors or strengths in your designs.
Please join the vtSDA (err we mean the vtTA) on Wednesday, May 16th, from 12-2pm, for this fascinating look at what is already a very disruptive technology. To prepare for this event, we encourage you to watch this entertaining and informative video on why this young teenager loves her 3D printer: www.youtube.com/watch?v=oyZxzkd-Jsk.
We hope you can join us for this fun Lunch & Learn!
